I received my Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology from New York University in 1997, and my Bachelor's Degree (also in Psychology) at the University of Michigan.
I started my private practice in 2013, where I have focused on working with individuals and families struggling with anxiety. Prior to starting my own practice, I worked for 8 years at The Ross Center for Anxiety & Related Disorders treating both children and adults. Previously, I worked at Children's National Medical Center in the Hyperactivity and Learning Problems Clinic, and also as a therapist for anxious kids.
During my clinical training at NYU, I had some deeply formative experiences that continue to influence the approach to my work today. I had the opportunity to intern at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn, where I worked with patients recovering from serious injuries, patients on a locked forensic unit (men who had been arrested and severely mentally ill), and children who had been removed from their abusive or neglectful parents.
Through my various professional experiences, I have also learned the value of taking a more eclectic approach to treatment. At NYU, I was trained in a more traditional psychodynamic therapy modality, in working with adults in distress. As I moved more towards treating anxiety disorders, I got additional training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy with adults and children. Research suggests that CBT is the most effective treatment for anxiety disorders. While I use CBT as my primary modality, I am grateful for my psychodynamic training which provides me an additional lens through which to address and approach clinical challenges.
I am currently a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Anxiety and Depression Association (AADA), and The Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC). I am licensed to practice clinical psychology in Washington, D.C.
